Basically, we were in complete bliss throughout our stay! The only small inconvenience we faced was with the bedding, which was stiff and uncomfortable. However, this isn’t exactly a deal-breaker, as some people may prefer firmer beds.

- The staff is very responsive and helpful in case you face any issues.
- The cabins and surrounding property is pet-friendly.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a secluded mountain cabin in Colorado and came across the gorgeous Elk Spring cabin in the Pikes Peak area. The rental sits on a hill overlooking the Pikes Peak mountain and a beautiful pond on a secluded 35-acre lot, making it perfect for couples and families seeking a remote getaway.
You’ll also love staying in this cabin, which is framed with an open concept living room and kitchen/dining area, two bedrooms opening onto the spacious deck, and a large patio out front with stunning views of the surrounding scenery.

Some of our favorite activities here were exploring the property and discovering its trails, pond, and wildlife, followed by returning to the cabin for a relaxing soak in the hot tub under the stars.

Furthermore, the property owner, Kyle, is a terrific host and ensures guests have everything they need for a relaxing stay.
However, consider before booking that there is another cabin on the property, so you’ll be sharing the outdoor spaces with them. Since we couldn’t see the other rental from our cabin, this wasn’t a big problem.

- The hosts are very friendly and accommodating throughout your stay.

Why secluded locations are great for couples when times are difficult
Relationships can often have their ups and downs. Perhaps one of you is struggling to put a foot in front of the other, or there are a lot of external stresses in life making things feel tricky.
Maybe you’re both working so hard you’ve no time to devote to simply being together.
You know the drill, life can sometimes be all work and no play. Then, the minute you do get a free day as a couple, you’re often too exhausted to contemplate anything other than sleeping in and ordering take-out (not that there’s anything wrong with that).
What if you both want something more from your quality time together? It might be time to look into taking a vacation to a calm, quiet, secluded location for a few days.
Don’t just take our word for it. Here are some words of wisdom from the experts on why it’s important to get away together as a couple when times are difficult.
What are effective ways of dealing with negative communication/arguments on a couple’s vacation?
“Firstly, it’s worth acknowledging before your trip that there will likely be conflict in some way and plan for it. It may be worth coming up with a code word that indicates you need a break or some alone time. It’s important that you have an understanding of how long this time will be and when you plan to reconvene with your partner once you feel back to your baseline. I recommend considering some of the basics and remembering to take time for rest, downtime, hydration, and healthy meals even though the urge can be to see everything and do everything while traveling.
Once things get heated or challenging, check in on the basics. Are you hungry/tired/homesick? Ask for what you need directly or use the code word to offer yourself a self-assessment. You may want more togetherness or connection with your partner. Or you may need some alone time or separation. There is no right/wrong here and needing alone time is not an indicator of the health of the relationship or a reflection on how the trip is going. Conflict is also not necessarily an indicator of the health of the relationship or the overall vacation. The goal here is to return to your baseline so you can be more engaged and connected with your partner and therefore enjoy the vacation together moreseo.
Lastly, remember it is difficult to have a productive conversation or connect with your partner if either or both of you are dysregulated and unable to listen to each other. Once you are both regulated and able to have the challenging conversation, remember to LISTEN. Immediately offering solutions or questioning your partner’s feelings isn’t helpful. Reflect back what you are hearing and then check in to make sure you’re hearing things accurately. Once both individuals feel truly heard, then it’s time to talk about how to move forward and get back to enjoying your vacation.
Bon voyage!” Sarah Murray, LCSW (she/her/hers) Heart Wild Therapy
How can a couple’s vacation help start healing conversations about your relationship?
“When couples find themselves in that never-ending loop of disconnection, whether it’s due to constant bickering or years of bottled-up frustration, it often results in a state of dysregulation within their nervous systems. This dysregulation can manifest as either heightened reactivity (the fight-or-flight response) or emotional shutdown.
It’s a challenge to see eye-to-eye when we’re not feeling particularly warm and fuzzy about your partner. And let’s face it, life gets busy, and sometimes we’d rather sweep those issues under the rug.
That’s where vacations work their magic. They serve as a unique opportunity for the nervous system to unwind and recalibrate. They offer couples the chance to slow down, rekindle their need for enjoyment—an aspect frequently neglected in today’s fast-paced lifestyles—and lower their emotional defenses.
Within this relaxed setting, couples often find it easier to engage in open, empathetic communication and see their partners through a lens of compassion. Vacations become an ideal space to initiate healing dialogues, mend past wounds, and create new memories together.” Melissa Shaw Therapist | Facilitator Knot Counseling
What are some of the ways in which a private/secluded vacation for a couple can help them reconnect?
“The demands of daily living can make it hard to feel emotional intimacy with our partners. When we’re so busy that we don’t even have time to look our partners in the eyes, time spent on the monotonies of life slowly erodes the passion and intimacy we once felt with our partners. Couples with children especially spend much of their time devoted to making sure everything is getting done, living in survival mode, without room for a connection to thrive.
A private vacation can be just what a couple needs to help them reconnect. When we take time out to play, relax, and get to know our partners again, we create fertile ground for a connection to grow. You might just find that there are things about your partner that you forgot about or didn’t know as you have been too busy to give the time and attention to your relationship that a private vacation could give you. Emotional intimacy cannot live without being fed by one-on-one attention to each other, and a private vacation gives the time and space needed to have that feeling that you first had in your relationship when you spent night upon night gazing at each other over candlelit dinners and long, sensual massages.” Dr. Tasha Seiter MS, PhD, LMFT Marriage Counselling Fort Collins
Can taking a couple’s only break help improve family life as a whole?
“When couples start to have kids, oftentimes their perspectives can change and their world may become centered around their kids. While that can be beneficial for the health and well-being of the kids, the parents can find that in time their relationship with one another starts to suffer. This may result in feeling detached from one another, or feeling like they only talk about the kids and coordinate schedules versus connecting on a deeper level. Without prioritizing some of their energy towards their relationship, the couple will find their relationship to weaken. One of the best ways to stop this slow drift apart from happening is to prioritize their relationship with one another, spending special time just with their spouse/partner. This can look like time away together on vacation or small intentional date nights after the kids go to bed. Making their relationship a priority, not only in regards to time and effort, but also in emotional and physical connection, will set the couple up for long-term success. So when couples are able to set up a time to have a vacation together, just the two of them, they will often rediscover what brought them together in the first place and rejuvenate their connection. That time away will help them re-affirm their relationship outside of the role of parents and caretakers, freeing them to step into the future as partners instead of merely co-managers of their family.” Brittany Steckel, MA, LPC, MFTC

If you’re looking for an escape for a few nights, then some quiet seclusion in a cabin getaway might be just the thing to unwind, relax, and recharge together.
Peace, solitude, and harmony could be just the thing to achieve some inner tranquility and reconnect as a couple if life has been particularly hectic and stressful. Some quiet time now, and a promise to plan for more regular breaks can make all the difference in the short term, and help you feel more able to deal with whatever life throws at you in the long term.
